Keith Allen has contributed to the successful completion of many HAI projects during the past twenty-five years. Located in Berlin, Germany, Keith shoulders responsibility in complex investigations involving multiple countries. His practice areas include environmental remediation, looted assets, product liability, and slavery disclosure.

Path to HAI | Legal

Keith has spent the past two and half decades employed as an applied historian. After completing his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University, Keith served on an international scholarly commission investigating Switzerland's wartime ties to Nazi Germany. Thereafter, he directed web development at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. More recently, he co-curated the first pan-European exhibition on the legacies of World War II. This multinational initiative opened in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Keith’s publications include contributions to leading scholarly journals. He has also co-published a guide to digital preservation in museums, a German-English dictionary for archivists, and articles on slavery-era disclosure and Dutch finance. His last scholarly monograph uncovered long-hidden interrogation systems developed by Germany’s western occupiers to protect internal security (and gather military and economic intelligence). His next book, set in the 1990s, illuminates cross-border dimensions of privatization. Keith has secured fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and the German Research Foundation (DFG). His research involves declassifying materials created by US and foreign governments, international organizations, and supranational agencies of the European Union.
